For another year, the children from the Sunday school at the Orthodox church “St. John the Forerunner” in Kardzhali will collect willow branches, which will be distributed on Palm Sunday to the people in the church.

On Saturday, at 10 a.m., after the Holy Divine Liturgy on Lazarus Saturday, we organize ourselves and leave, Father Nikolay Velichkov told Radio Kardzhali and invited everyone who wishes to join the action.

“For the 13th – 14th year, we are organizing the children from the parish school to the monastery “St. John the Forerunner”, and all the children who wish, and we go to some special pleasant place around Kardzhali, where we gather willow. It is a blessed holiday. Very happy. The children remember it and look forward to this moment,” said Father Nicholas.

He specified that after the collection of the willow, all together – children and parents, make a “forest restaurant” with lean meat, play ball games, federball.

Later in the day, the children gather at the temple to weave wreaths from the willow branches. “We have a tradition in “St. John the Forerunner” let’s hand out ready-made wreaths to people and thus make them happy”, Father Nikolai explained.
