Cherry season is no longer just the title of one of the favorite Turkish series of moviegoers in our country. It also becomes an emblem of the elections, which will be held in the midst of the cherry campaign.

Just like the delicious fruit, the pre-election race will show which of the parties colored in red will prevail in the ranking for parliament and whether the PP-DB will be fatally stuck by the bone of scandals, so that they finish in 4th place. And, of course, how many voters will prefer to pick cherries instead of going to the polls.

34 parties and coalitions submitted documents to the Central Election Commission (CEC) within the deadline for participation in the upcoming elections for the National Assembly and the European Parliament, which will be held on June 9.

The “change” faded, Cyril darkened

“We continue the change-Democratic Bulgaria” and GERB-SDS registered at the last moment. And while Borisov’s party demonstrated enviable self-confidence and a wonderful mood, Kiril Petkov was gloomy and broken, showing an unprecedented irritability. Amid the high-profile corruption scandals that have become household names such as Pudelgate, the party of change has also received friendly fire.

A day before the PP-DB coalition registered to participate in the vote, “Middle European Class”, headed by Konstantin Bachiyski, left the coalition. A week earlier, the “Green Movement” party broke away from it, and will appear independently in the vote.

Thus, the coalition was reduced to 4 parties – “We continue the change”, “Yes, Bulgaria”, DSB and “Volt”. They registered on the last possible day and submitted 9,999 signatures. Boyko Borisov’s party also deposited the same amount. She also registered at the last minute and ran again in the elections with her coalition partners, the SDF. In contrast, DPS collected 12,222 signatures.

Unsurprisingly, “Vazrazhdane” and “There is such a people” announced that they will participate independently in the elections.

The red coalitions attracted the most attention.

Grigorova and Manolova vs. Ninova

Even before the start of the campaign, the left space was strongly shaken. Vanya Grigorova and the leader of “Stand up.BG” Maya Manolova announced that they are uniting against the leader of the BSP Kornelia Ninova.

Vanya Grigorova headed the “Solidary Bulgaria” coalition, which also includes “Bulgarian Left” and “United Social Democracy”, and deposited in the CEC an impressive 5,000 signatures for a new political entity. Why with Vanya, wrote Manolova on Facebook. And shook the left space: “Because we are both fighters”.

And although the two blades of the left space did not participate in the vote for the European Parliament, they made a serious request that they will enter the national one, occupying the first two places on the list of future deputies in the 50th National Assembly.

While waiting for the name of the person who will lead the list of the BSP for Brussels, Cornelia Ninova put an indisputable emphasis on the selection of her team for the national vote. “BSP for Bulgaria” submitted 10,000 signatures and will appear in the elections together with “Political Club Ecoglasnost” and “Political Club Trakia”.
The parties of Georgi Parvanov and Tatiana Doncheva – ABV and Dvizhenie 21 – remain in the “Levitsa” coalition.

The decision of MEP Elena Yoncheva to run for the European Parliament elections, supported by DPS, was an unexpected but strong blow against the Reds. The regional structure of the DPS in Blagoevgrad was the first to nominate Yoncheva for the European Parliament. Days after that, the previous MEP, who led the list of the BSP in 2019, received a nomination from other DPS structures in the country.

Yoncheva is placed in fifth place on the list of nominees – after party chairmen Delyan Peevski and Jevdet Chakarov, current MEPs Ilhan Kyuchyuk and Iskra Mihailova, but it is already clear that many of them will resign in order to remain in the National Assembly.

A former chief prosecutor, a businessman sanctioned under the “Magnitsky” law, “Sinya Sofia” and an independent MP will also try to shift the political space.

The coalition “Civil Bloc” and Ivan Geshev attracted attention with the participation of Vesela Draganova, whose Party of Bulgarian Women was the mandate holder of the “Sakskoburggothsky” cabinet, and the BDS “Radicals”, founded by the former deputy prime minister of Kostov, Evgeniy Bakardjiev.

Vasil Bozhkov announced already in the winter his new political project – Center National Movement. With it, he enters the race, harboring the “Freedom” party and the “Bulgarian Agricultural Party” under his wing.

Former sports minister Radostin Vassilev, who left “Promyanata” with a bang, attacked the parliament with the party he founded on October 22 “Morality, Unity, Honor” (MECH).

In the elections on June 9, more than 11,800 polling stations will be opened in the country, and the vote outside the country will be in 776 places in 60 countries. The most sections will be in Turkey, Great Britain and Germany.

However, will the big surprises in the Cherry Season be in Kyustendil?
Two of the seats there will certainly be for GERB, as the leader is again expected to be former interior minister Hristo Terziyski.

Georgi Stamov will fight to keep his place in the parliament from the PP-DB in competition with “Vazrazhdane”, as the leader of the list may again be Mira Mirkova.

The fourth mandate will be the most controversial, because in the competition between the BSP and ITN, it is very likely that DPS will come out headfirst. And to make his great Kyustendil return to Parliament.
