Cherries up to 24 mm in diameter will be redeemed in the upcoming campaign in a month. This was announced at a meeting with producers, processors and buyers organized by the Kyustendil Municipality.
Such is the requirement of processing enterprises in our country and abroad – smaller ones are in demand. Measures will be taken against the import of cherries from Turkey and Greece, said the mayor of Kyustendil, Eng. Ognyan Atanasov. A recommendation was made regarding the treatment of the fruit with chemical materials when spraying – usually a minimum of 5-6 sprays are made on cherry orchards.
The forecasts are that the cherry harvest in the region, where the fruit-bearing massifs are about 20,000 decares, will be good, especially after the hail that fell in Plovdiv, Chirpan, Sliven and other places.
Prof. Dimitar Domozetov, long-time director of the Institute of Agriculture near Kyustendil, now a farmer, shared:
“Good pollination has been achieved and we will have a bountiful harvest”.
