Commissions begin inspections of damage caused by hail in southern Bulgaria – Around the world and in our country

--

Expert committees are starting inspections of the damage caused by the hail that fell yesterday in many places in southern Bulgaria. Farmers who have suffered will have to submit applications for a survey to be carried out in the agricultural service areas. Farmers in the regions of Plovdiv, Stara Zagora and Sliven are seriously affected. The Hail Agency explained that they acted in the best way and followed all procedures so that the damage from the so-called super hail cell would not be even greater.

Ivan Nikolov grows vegetables in the May Day village of Krushevo.

Ivan Nikolov, a farmer from the village of Krushevo: “This is total damage. At first it was very large, then it was smaller. Everything turned white. The fields turned white from the outside.”

The crop that was ready to be picked is now completely destroyed. Otchayan says that the other plantations will not survive either:

“There will be nothing left of these plants. 50 percent of the hail and the other 50 percent will be destroyed by the diseases coming from the hail…”

The losses in Stanislav Ivanov’s farm are also big:

“The lettuce is a big percentage. I have a big one that I’m picking right now, it’s a 100 percent loss.”

The greatest damage is in Chirpan villages. There, the disaster was the longest and the hail clouds caused damage twice in the space of two hours, says Petya Zheleva. However, her losses are not 100 percent, and therefore she is very worried that she will not receive state support:

“We also hope that those who are not 100 percent will also receive compensation. Hope dies last, despite the state it is in now and the payments being delayed.”

Representatives of the Ministry of Agriculture and the Agency for the fight against hail came to see the situation on the spot in the most affected area – the village of Zetivo.

Ivan Kapitanov, Deputy Minister of Agriculture: “There are rules for the aid, which is for such events – in order to support a farmer, it is necessary to have 100% failure of the areas. What the state will try to do in the shortest possible time term, is to pay the aid, the benefits, so that they can continue their activities.”

The Hail Combat Agency said that radar and command posts did not stop working and because of this, more damage was prevented.

“Until 8:00 p.m., the agency fired just over 1,100 rockets, with the greatest impact in the Stara Zagora region. As a result, yes, you saw hailstones in many places, but very often it is a processed cell that, thanks to precisely these impacts have not reached huge proportions. And I assume that this will be seen as damage within 1-2 weeks, that the damage is not so great everywhere”, explained Eng. Valeri Tsenov, executive director of the “Borba s haladushkete” Agency .

At the moment, there are enough missiles available as a resource, but the difficult situation yesterday made it necessary to direct a part of the reserve stored in the regional directorates to the sites, the agency specified.
