Kozunatsi in Pleven – from 3 to 20 BGN – Pleven press

--

There is no drastic increase in the prices of Easter cakes in Pleven. This was established by an inspection of Pleven Press. As early as April 14, the chairwoman of the National Union of Bakers and Confectioners – Mariana Kukusheva, told the media that “No increase in the value of kosunacs is expected before Easter, because there is huge competition that suppresses prices.”

There is no equal price for kozunaks. The price is determined by the manufacturer, which includes the raw materials used in its production – flour, fresh milk, butter, eggs, stuffing. Human labor and consumed electricity are added to it.

There is no serious increase in the price of cottage cheese in regional centers close to Pleven, an inspection by the Cross agency has found. There is no increase in the price of kozunaks in Lovech, despite more expensive products for them. In Vanya Georgieva’s bakery, the kozunaks are BGN 6 again this year, regardless of whether they are classic or with raisins. A roll with marmalade or with chocolate is also available for BGN 7. “The increase in products is not big, so we can afford to keep the price.” Georgieva points out.

And in other places in the city, the prices of kosunaka are also BGN 6, and there is a difference in the rolls, which can be found at both BGN 6 and BGN 6.50.

There is no change in the prices of kozunaks in Vratsa. The prices are the same as last year – BGN 5 for classic and about BGN 6 – 6.50 for kozunak with additives such as chocolate, Turkish delight and raisins. If there is no change in the prices of the products included in the product, the prices will remain the same, explained to Cross from one of the companies that produce kozunak and snacks.

There is an increase in prices in Sofia and Burgas, found the agency Cross. For Sofia, where 500 grams cost BGN 8-10 per kilogram, different cuts cost BGN 16-20, and in some places even more.

There is an increase in the price of kozunaks and in Burgas. The value of one of the city’s boutique bakeries has increased by nearly 20%. “The prices of all dairy products, including butter, which are the main ingredients of kosunak, are higher. Chocolate is also overpriced, Turkish delight is already almost BGN 10 per kilogram. Usually, before the holiday, the prices of eggs and sugar also rise speculatively, so the industry cannot help but react,” says master baker Denitsa Georgieva. For example, for 450 grams of kozunak, filled with Turkish delight and walnuts or with raisins, the price is BGN 23.50. At the same price and weight, is the kozunak with orange peel and chocolate.

The Burgas bakery also sells pure kozunac made of quality flour and good eggs. For 350 grams, the price is BGN 13.50. The unit cost about the same last year, but for 500 grams.

By about 15%, the price of kozunak in Pleven. Half a kilogram of the traditional pastry, mixed with eggs and fresh milk and added to it with Turkish delight, chocolate or rosehip marmalade, costs BGN 10 for 500 g. In large food chains, the same weight can be found for BGN 3.50.

It is important to note that, for the most part, Pleven bakers offer kozunac at this price when they are prepared from ready-made mixtures – egg powder, dry milk and margarine instead of butter.

In the Pleven boutique bakery Cakes by ELI kozunaks are kneaded with homemade fresh milk, eggs, butter and flour from BGN 5/kg. The fillings are homemade sweets: white cherries, figs, pumpkin, blueberries, berries. The chocolate is hand-made from high-quality Belgian, the walnuts are from the Balkans /where the owner herself is from/, and the Turkish delight and raisins are from the wholesale trade.

In fact, we wrote about this owner years ago, when she opened her own bakery in the center of Pleven. Pleven’s Juliette Binoche tempts with melt-in-the-mouth miracles.

From then until now, she has not allowed herself to compromise on quality. Despite the Covid and the surge in the prices of raw materials and electricity. It did not raise the price of kosunaka this year either.

However, if you are a pretentious and wealthy customer, you should go to Sofia, where boutique bakeries offer kosunatsi from BGN 45 for 550 g or BGN 82 per kilogram. The bakery with the most expensive kozunak specifies that the white flour is from a stone mill, and the eggs are from free-range hens. The salted caramel filling is made with the most expensive sea salt, which is produced only in France. Its name means “Salt Flower” in French.

The Easter treat comes with several frosting options – chocolate latte, pistachio, dark chocolate and pistachio. The boutique kozunak is sent to the customer in a special package complete with rum or the French analogue of pastis mastic.

But you don’t have to go all the way to Sofia for such pampering. Stay in Pleven, because again this year Pleven offers a variety of Easter cakes – for every taste and every pocket. There is a choice. It remains to have faith in God that he will protect us from diseases, wars, natural disasters and our own stupidity. Because there is no greater disaster than it.
