--

The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Maria Angelieva, today accepted the copies of the credentials of the newly appointed Ambassador of the Republic of Argentina to the Republic of Bulgaria, Alejandro Sotner Meyer. This was announced by the press center of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA).
Deputy Minister Angelieva congratulated Ambassador Sotner Meyer on his appointment and expressed his belief that his work in Bulgaria will contribute to upgrading the contacts between the two countries at all levels and will bring new momentum to the bilateral dialogue.
During the meeting, the two discussed the current state and prospects for further expansion and deepening of trade-economic ties and scientific-research relations between our two countries, as well as current topics on the international agenda, the MFA added.
Maria Angelieva used the occasion to express Bulgaria’s gratitude for Argentina’s logistical support for the annual Bulgarian Antarctic expeditions.
On July 16, 2021, the phototype documentary exhibition “Argentina and Bulgaria: 90 years of friendship” was opened, and the event was part of a series of initiatives with which the two countries commemorate the 90th anniversary of the establishment in 1931 of their diplomatic relations.
At the beginning of this year, representatives of Bulgaria and Argentina discussed Antarctic cooperation. The Bulgarian ambassador to Argentina, Stoyan Mihailov, and the rector of the Nikola Vaptsarov Naval Academy (VVMU), Admiral Boyan Mednikarov, met in the Argentine capital, Buenos Aires, with the Commander-in-Chief of the Argentine Naval Forces, Admiral Carlos Maria Aliyev. The conversation noted the development of cooperation between the naval forces of Bulgaria and Argentina thanks to the annual Bulgarian Antarctic expeditions and the additional opportunities for interaction after the inclusion in the expeditions of the military scientific research ship “St. St. Cyril and Methodius” (NIK 421).
On February 18 of this year, the head of the 32nd Bulgarian Antarctic Expedition, Prof. Hristo Pimpirev, handed over letters from the mayor of Burgas, Dimitar Nikolov, and the rector of the Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski” Prof. Dr. Georgi Valchev with proposals for the partnership of the Argentinian city of Comodoro Rivadavia, where there are about 2,000 descendants of Bulgarians who moved a century ago. Then Alejandro Meyer expressed the desire of the Argentine Foreign Ministry to develop and deepen relations with Bulgaria in Antarctica, which, according to him, are one of the most important connections between the two countries.
