From the Municipality of Stara Zagora, we urgently inform all children’s facilities – nurseries, kindergartens and schools, as well as all health professionals about the measures required by the RZI in connection with the registered cases of whooping cough. This was announced today by the Deputy Mayor of the Municipality of Stara Zagora, Pavlina Delcheva, with the department “Municipal property, health care and social activities”, reported a reporter of “Focus”.

Health professionals must check all immunizations and reimmunizations of all children in children’s and educational institutions on the territory of the municipality. The deadline for this is May 10, 2024.

Unimmunized children will be sought out, including with the help of Roma mediators where necessary, although the problem with anti-vaxxers is certainly not limited to minority children.

“The fears we have had for years, that parents refuse to immunize their children and this could lead to a serious problem, we are already seeing come true,” noted Pavlina Delcheva. The Deputy Mayor appealed to parents to show conscience and cooperate. and the directors of children’s and educational institutions should also approach the problem responsibly.

So far, there have been 3 registered cases of whooping cough in the Stara Zagora region since the beginning of 2024 – an 8-year-old, an 18-year-old and a 1-month-old baby. They are from Stara Zagora and Kazanlak, and for both students there is data on immunization.
