The caretaker government of Dimitar Glavchev decided at its meeting on Friday to give nearly BGN 200 million from the budget to increase salaries in ministries and departments.

In this way, the policy of Academician Nikolay Denkov’s office to overcome disparities in remuneration in the state administration was continued. However, this happened at the end of the previous government’s term, after officials went out in protest.

Thus, on April 1, an additional BGN 72 million was allocated to the budgets of the ministries with the lowest salaries – of education and science and of culture, and in the municipalities.

The decision of the Council of Ministers was to raise the salaries of 53,000 civil servants by an average of BGN 283 retroactively from January 1. The increase was included in the budget for this year, with the planned funds for this amounting to BGN 268.85 million.

The most funds from the current distribution of money for raising salaries are for the Ministry of the Interior – over 67.6 million BGN. This is because about 50,000 people work there, over half of whom are police officers.

More than BGN 39 million is allocated for salary increases in the Ministry of Finance – this is the department in which the highest salaries in the state administration are taken.

The other large departments that receive more than 11 million leva each for raising salaries are the administration of the Council of Ministers, as well as those working in the National Social Security Institute (NSI).

The Ministry of the Interior receives more than 20 million BGN

The Ministry of the Interior receives an additional BGN 20 million. The funds will be used for current building repairs, the Council of Ministers decided at its meeting today.

On April 4, the government of Academician Nikolay Denkov allocated an additional BGN 2.79 million from the budget of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for scholarships for cadets at the Academy of the Ministry of the Interior.

It is unclear how much money for the Institute of Metrology

The government of Dimitar Glavchev has also approved additional expenses under the budget of the Bulgarian Institute of Metrology. However, the Government Information Service did not specify the amount of the sum.

The Cabinet adopted a Decree approving additional expenses under the budget of the Ministry of Economy and Industry for 2024, which are for the needs of the Bulgarian Institute of Metrology.

The funds will make it possible to make the interim and final payments under two contracts for the supply of equipment and software for the performance of the institute’s functions, in accordance with the Law on Electronic Government, the Law on Cyber Security and the regulations on their implementation, the announcement of the government information service.

Usually, this money is absorbed through the state-owned company “Information Service”, which is designated as the national system integrator, and perhaps this is the reason why the amount is not specified.
