The contest for children’s drawing “Rhodope dyes” takes place every 10 years

For the tenth year in a row, the Municipal Children’s Complex announces the holding of the Regional competition for children’s drawing on the theme “RHODOPE BAGRI”, in memory of the famous Kardzhali artist Jemal Emurlov – Jimmy. The contest is included in the Cultural Calendar of the Municipality of Kardzhali, and its organizers are the Municipality of Kardzhali and the Municipal Children’s Complex, with the support of the RUO Kardzhali and SU “Vladimir Dimitrov – Master”.

The purpose of the competition is to promote the work of the artist Jemal Emurlov – Jimmy, to discover and promote children’s talents in the field of visual arts and provide an opportunity for creative expression.

The theme “Rhodope dyes” is very close to the works of Jemal Emurlov. It gives children the opportunity for a creative interpretation of nature, the past, Rhodope myths and legends, ethnographic motifs (customs, costumes, way of life), cultural monuments, folklore, multi-ethnic environment, etc.

According to the regulations of the competition, all children and students aged 6 to 19 can participate in it. Painting is done only with watercolor and tempera paints. Size of the drawing – 35/50 cm., without mounting.

The back of each work must have the following information: the author’s three names, age and grade, school, extracurricular unit, title /if any/, supervisor’s name and surname, telephone.

The ranking of the participants will be done in three age groups: Group I – 6 – 10 years, Group II – 11 – 14 years, Group III – 15 – 19 years. I, II and III prizes will be awarded for each age group , incentive awards and special awards.

The official opening of the “Rhodope dyes” exhibition will be held on June 6, 2024 at 3 p.m. in the gallery of the ODK.

Jemal Emurlov – Jimmy is a famous Bulgarian artist who lived and worked in Kardzhali. He was born in 1948, graduated from the Academy of Arts in Sofia, chairman of the Union of Bulgarian Artists in Kardzhali, teacher of fine arts at SU “Vladimir Dimitrov – Master”, founder of the Art Gallery in the city. His paintings can be found in the art galleries of almost all the regional cities of Bulgaria, in many private collections abroad, and also in the National Art Gallery.

In 2008, Jemal Emurlov – Jimmy was declared an honorary citizen of Kardzhali. He left this world in 2014. His work is dedicated to the unique radiance of the common man, the charm of the female image and the beauty of the Rhodopes.
