35 new jurors were sworn in at the District Court-Silistra

--

The Chairman of the Regional Court-Silistra, Judge Miroslav Hristov, Judge Maria Petrova and Judge Rosen Kostadinov held a ritual of swearing in the new jurors at the Regional Court-Silistra.

“As of today, you are the representatives of the public in criminal justice. According to the law, you are equal members of the judiciary and have an equal voice with that of the judge in the specific case. Our common duty is to apply the principles of the rule of law, of freedom and equality, for protection of the basic rights of the citizens. I wish you to fulfill this position responsibly and with dignity. Let’s defend the ancient Roman maxim that “law is an art for goodness and justice” – said Chairman Miroslav Hristov in his greeting.
Sworn jurors signed oath sheets and underwent initial training, which is mandatory upon taking office, at the National Institute of Justice.

The lecturer in the training was judge Galina Vasileva from the criminal department of the District Court-Silistra. She introduced the jurors to basic concepts and principles in criminal proceedings, supporting each topic with examples. The jurors also listened to a lecture on “Ethics and Protocol” presented by a District Court Public Relations officer.

The jurors of the Regional Court-Silistra are appointed on the proposal of the Municipal Council-Silistra, after a selection procedure of candidates for the position.

For this mandate, their number is 35 people, and the mandate is for the period 2024-2028.
