The Swedish football championship will not introduce the VAR system, as the majority of teams have spoken out against the technology. Thus, the Scandinavian country will be the only one of the top 30 leagues in Europe that will not use the VAR system.

Curiously, according to Swedish law, football clubs must hold 51% of the fans, which means they have the final vote.

The system was supposed to reduce refereeing errors, but there are still decisions that lead to serious public discussions, and the Swedes are reluctant to introduce the technology.

“We have 18 elite teams who have said they don’t want the VAR system. We respect that and therefore do not plan to implement it in the league,” said Swedish Football Association chairman Fredrik Reinfeldt.
