The Ukrainian prisoner of war who was brutally shot in captivity by Russian troops for daring to utter “Glory to Ukraine” is called Alexander Macievski. He was a fighter from the 163rd battalion of the 119th separate brigade of the forces of the Chernihiv region, UNIAN reported.

Earlier, Ukrainian media and military units had mistakenly spread the claim that the murdered man was named Timofey Mikailovich Shadura.

The official information from the Territorial Department “North” of the Armed Forces of Ukraine is that on December 30, Macievsky and four other military personnel engaged in a battle with superior enemy forces on the outskirts of Soledar, near Bakhmut.

At around 12:00, the connection with Alexander was lost. Reinforcements were unable to break through the position due to continuous mortar fire.

“We do not fully know the details of this battle. It is not known who died and how, it is not known how Alexander was captured, unfortunately there were no witnesses – they were all dead or missing”the army said in a statement.

Alexander’s mother, his son Mikhail and the servicemen from his unit recognized the soldier in the published clip.
