Relatives of Philip, who was killed on a pedestrian path in Sofia, are protesting today. The reason is the case against the accused for the murder of the young man, which will be heard in the Courthouse in the capital later in the day. The driver was driving with a blood alcohol level of 2.2, speeding and failing to stop at a pedestrian crossing on the fatal night of September 2 last year.

The relatives will also be supported by the Angels of the Road Foundation, which yesterday had a meeting in the parliament to fight for faster auto-examinations after accidents. After the meeting, relatives of the dead boy will place flowers at the place where Philip was killed on “Gen. Gurko” and “Shishman” streets and will release white doves.

“We are organizing the protest today to once again show society not to be indifferent to our children, they are not just statistics – the children and people who died on the roads, on footpaths. They had faces, names, they had dreams. And for society to think about what is caused by the use of alcohol, by driving at high speed. They should be careful and think,” said Filip’s mother Nikolina Petkova, a member of the BNT.

“Let’s be a little more human. I don’t expect anything to happen at the first meeting, the parties will be constituted and the case will proceed further. What we are aware of is that the driver consumed alcohol, the sample is over 2.2 per thousand, he did not stop on a pedestrian crossing, he drove at an excessive speed. We trust that the court will be objective and will issue a decision that will be for the edification of the whole society,” said the father of the dead boy, Krasimir Arsov.
