They seized gold jewelry worth BGN 144,000 belonging to Captain Andreevo

Customs officials of “Captain Andreevo” detained gold ornaments worth over 144 thousand BGN during two inspections, reports the “Customs” Agency.

On September 11, 2022, a truck with Turkish registration arrived at the checkpoint. The driver, a Turkish citizen, presented regular documents for the transported goods – watermelons from Turkey to Germany. According to the “risk analysis” method, the truck was selected for a thorough customs inspection.

When searching the vehicle in three places in the driver’s cabin, under the seats and in a factory cavity above the panoramic glass, four cardboard boxes containing yellow metal products were found. The expert examination established that the ornaments have a total weight of 985.60 grams and are made of 14, 21 and 22 carat gold. Their value is determined at BGN 116,392.

The smuggled gold jewelery has been seized. Pre-trial proceedings have been initiated in the case. The driver was remanded in cash bail, as well as prohibited from leaving the country, except with the permission of the supervising prosecutor.

In the other case, a car with German registration arrived at the checkpoint on 09.09.2022. The driver, his wife and their two children were traveling in the car. They stated that they were not carrying goods, money or currency to declare. During the customs inspection, in a structural cavity of the car, the customs officers found packages of yellow metal products. According to the expertise, the items are gold with a total weight of 269.80 grams and a value of BGN 28,329.

The driver was issued an act under the Foreign Exchange Act.
