Chechen President Ramzan Kadyrov tried to quell rumors of his potential death Tuesday by showing off his exercise regimen in an influencer-style gym video, Politico reported.

Bearded training warrior Kadyrov, fresh from bench exercises, said: “A busy day ended with training and positivity. Physical activity improves not only the body, but also the mood. Evening workouts are a great way to relax and recharge your batteries.”

The Chechen leader – an ally of Russian President Vladimir Putin – added: “Remember that taking care of your health is an investment in the future, and consistency and perseverance will lead you to success both in sports and in life.”

Earlier on Monday, Novaya Gazeta Evropa, an independent Russian newspaper based in Latvia, reported that Kadyrov had been diagnosed with pancreatic necrosis in January 2019, prompting Moscow to search for his successor.

“Kadyrov was hospitalized last year with acute lung failure after an overdose of a pre-operative sedative,” the publication reported, citing sources familiar with the matter.

Kadyrov is the head of Russia’s Muslim Chechen Republic and is considered one of Putin’s most prominent allies in his war against Ukraine.

Putin promoted Kadyrov to the rank of colonel general in October 2023, one of the highest military ranks in Russia. Above him are only an army general and a marshal.

On July 27, 2023, Putin awarded Kadyrov with the Order of Alexander Nevsky for his contribution to the socio-economic development of Chechnya. The Order of Alexander Nevsky is one of the highest Russian honors.

Kadyrov himself spoke frequently and reported news from the front in Ukraine, announcing the capture of key cities and sites such as the fall of Mariupol, Severodonetsk and Lisychansk, as well as the surrender of fighters from the Azovstal plant. Chechen formations play an important role in the military operations in Ukraine

Ramzan Kadyrov welcomed 3000 Wagnerites under the banner of “Akhmat”.

There is no confirmed information about the areas of operation of the Chechens on the front
