Shoigu’s deputy arrested for bribery has a mansion worth 2 billion rubles

Timur Ivanov, the deputy defense minister of Russia who was fired after being arrested for bribery, turned out to be the owner of a 2 billion ruble mansion on the banks of the Volga. The house with an area of ​​2900 m² with two additional buildings is located in the village of Pankratovo, Tver region, writes Mash.

Formally, the real estate and the land are registered in the name of the Volzhsky Bereg company, which was founded by Ivanov’s close co-owner of the Oboronspetsstroy company Sergey Borodin, who was also arrested in the criminal case against the deputy minister. In 2020, “Oboronspetsstroy” and “Olympsitystroy” invested about 800 million rubles in the construction of the mansion.

The estate, created in the image of the famous Znamenskoe-Rayok estate of the 18th century, occupies 8 hectares. According to the Telegram channel, a plot of 18 hectares was purchased for it in 2019, and for this the local deputies had to approve a change in the general plan, since the development of the coastal area of ​​the Volga is prohibited. Now this land is valued at 200 million rubles, it is not known how much Ivanov bought it for.

The estate consists of a manor house and two guest pavilions with four bedrooms each. The buildings are connected by galleries. Alexei Navalny’s Anti-Corruption Fund (AFF) first reported on this in 2022. In the basement of the estate, there are two food warehouses and four “antique” furniture storage rooms. On the ground floor there is a 90-meter fireplace hall for social receptions, a 100-meter billiard room, a dining room and a room called the “hooligan’s living room”.

On the second floor is the owners’ bedroom, a 40-meter bathroom and three wardrobes. There is also an 85-meter living room and a 56-meter workshop for Ivanov’s now ex-wife Svetlana Zakharova. The couple divorced in 2022 after the outbreak of war against Ukraine. According to some reports, this was done so that Zakharova would not be subject to sanctions and could continue to travel to Europe. Ivanov himself was blacklisted by the EU in October 2022.

Timur Ivanov was detained on April 23, the next day the court arrested him for two months. The investigation believes that the deputy minister patronized a number of companies in order to receive lucrative government contracts from the Ministry of Defense, and in return to build and restore properties owned by Ivanov and his family free of charge. The amount of the bribe received in this way amounted to 1.185 billion rubles.

On April 24, Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu removed Ivanov from the post of his deputy, which he had held since 2016. Now the former official faces 8 to 15 years in prison. He has pleaded not guilty.

The FBK investigation indicates that Ivanov owns not only an estate in the Tver region, but also a villa worth more than 1 billion rubles on Rublyovka, as well as the estate of the estate of Princess Sofia Volkonskaya in Moscow, which was purchased in 2012 for 600 million rubles . Between 2010 and 2018, Ivanov and Zakharova rented villas on the Cote d’Azur every summer and spent at least €850,000 on just one rental in St. Tropez.

Timur Ivanov was Shoigu’s key deputy, and thanks to him he ended up in the Ministry of Defense. Prior to that, Ivanov worked in the government of the Moscow region – exactly at the time when the current defense minister was the governor of the region. In the military department, Ivanov dealt with construction issues, including the construction of Covid hospitals and reconstruction works in occupied Mariupol, and also managed the supply budgets for the troops.
