The wife of a man from Plovdiv detained and accused by the Russian authorities of terrorism in Crimea is looking for help to save him. However, our embassy in Moscow cannot assist Marina Petranova because Bulgaria has not recognized Crimea as Russian territory.
She claims that her husband has nothing to do with such activity and denies that Petranov has a transport company. Federal security services, however, claim that he was involved in shipments, and bombs that were exported from Bulgaria were disguised as shipments of electric stoves. “He did not drive any bombs. When I heard this, I was shocked,” Petranova categorically told Nova TV.
The targets of the attacks were the Governor of Crimea Sergey Aksyonov, the Mayor of Yalta Yanina Pavlenko, as well as the transport infrastructure of the peninsula.
Among those detained was the man from Plovdiv, who was introduced as Denis Petranov, born in 1979. The FSS confirmed that he has Bulgarian and Ukrainian citizenship and was involved in the delivery of weapons to the territory of Russia.
“The first thing I did was to contact the Bulgarian embassy in Moscow. From there they told me that they would make an inquiry. I waited three weeks, I had no answer.
Yesterday evening they told me they had an answer, really everything is as I say it. This is written in the answer, but they cannot help me because Bulgaria does not recognize Crimea as a territory of Russia and they cannot do anything,” said Marina.
Marina and Denis are ethnic Bulgarians from the Russian-occupied territories of Ukraine. Since 2017, they have been living in Plovdiv, where Denis worked in a factory, but had health problems, so he receives a pension. He often visited his wife’s parents in Raynovka, Russia.
When he started to go home, he passed through occupied Mariupol. He was kept for 12 hours for examination. 1000 km later, on the border between Russia and Georgia, FSB officers were waiting for him. She last heard from her husband, Dennis, on May 10, when the charges were filed.
“He was first accused of hooliganism because he went and fought with people in the streets. He was detained for 10 days and when he came out, they waited for him outside and presented him with all this,” the woman said.
