The Azovstal plant in Mariupol was hit by British Storm Shadow cruise missiles, DNR authorities reported. A few seconds before the explosion, the residents of the city heard the whistling of rockets in the sky.
According to military analysts, the strike coincided with the anniversary of the capture of the catacombs by Russian forces. “At 8:10 p.m., 2 long-range rockets were fired from the northwest in the direction of Mariupol,” the DPR authorities reported.
“There is an explosion in Mariupol! It is known in advance about a hit in the Azovstal region, there is a big column of smoke,” wrote the adviser of the mayor of Mariupol Petro Andryushchenko in Telegram.
It was previously reported that the Ukrainian Air Force was raised to launch missile strikes.
We recall that on May 11, the United Kingdom provided Kiev with long-range Storm Shadow cruise missiles before the upcoming offensive of the Ukrainian armed forces.
Storm Shadow is an air-to-ground cruise missile developed since 1994 by the French company Matra and the British company British Aerospace.
These weapons are launched from aircraft. According to experts, the already delivered ammunition (missiles) can be installed on MiG-29 fighters, which Kiev has.
