Because of political hatred, we are returning to the times of the Spanish Inquisition, announced the Metropolitan of Plovdiv

Recently, we have started to hear calls for the elimination and almost physical liquidation of specific individuals, said the bishop of Plovdiv in his speech at the liturgy for September 6

Metropolitan Nikolay of Plovdiv gave a sharp speech with references to politics at the end of his liturgy for the Day of Unification. He attacked the graduates abroad, who then behave with contempt towards the people in Bulgaria. And the candidates for deputies from “We continue the change”, who attended the liturgy, left the church demonstratively.

“Now they are coming back and it turns out that in addition to knowledge that we expect them to apply, some of them have imbibed contempt for their native land, disrespect for their parents, extreme individualism, materialism, selfishness and, above all, a readiness to impose what they have learned by force, with the methods of the inquisition”, said the bishop addressing the people who graduated from prestigious universities in the West. He added that these people talk about politics but in practice behave like religious fanatics practicing some religion of hatred.

Right after these words, the candidate MPs of “We continue the change” left the Church of the Holy Virgin and only Nikola Minchev remained in the church. Politicians from other parties also attended the service.

“Hate on a political basis is now bordering on hysteria. Recently, we have started to hear calls for the elimination and almost physical liquidation of specific individuals, named by name. I have the feeling that we are returning to the times of the Spanish Inquisition,” the Metropolitan of Plovdiv also said in his speech Nicholas. He returned to the words of 2013, when on the same date he again spoke about hatred and division in society. And he emphasized that now it is worse.

“If before hatred was instilled and incited rather in principle, since 2 years ago it has already acquired personified features. Now specific groups of people are called to hate other specific groups of people. The young to hate the old, the people from the center to hate those from the outskirts , those who listen to one kind of music must necessarily hate those who listen to another kind of music… It turns out that you can no longer identify with one social circle if you don’t hate people from other social circles,” added Metropolitan Nikolay. He recalled that the Inquisition was an institution of the Western Church, not of Orthodoxy.

After the end of the liturgy, those present in the church honored the memory of the Governor-General of Eastern Rumelia, Gavril Krastevich, who supported the Unification 137 years ago. “Gavril Krastevich graduated in law in Paris, which proves that Western education is not necessarily a bad thing. The difference between him and some of today’s graduates of Western universities is that he was immune to one of the most basic lessons of Western education, and namely – that everything can be the object of a transaction, that everything is for sale. As an Orthodox person, he knew that there are things that are not for sale,” said Metropolitan Nikolay.

The celebrations in Plovdiv continued with the laying of wreaths and flowers in front of the monument of Zahari Stoyanov and the memorial plaque of Major Raicho Nikolov.
