The national volleyball team of Bulgaria for youths up to 20 years of age finished their preparations for the European Championship in Italy with a victory. Martin Stoev’s boys beat France with 3:1 (25:22, 25:18, 18:25, 25:20) in the second control between the two teams in Civitanova.
Bulgaria U20 won the title of the Balkaniad in Albania
Simeon Nikolov, who joined the team after his stay in the Italian Kucine Lube (Civitanova), took part in the friendly matches.
Most useful for Bulgaria was Alexander Nikolov with 19 points (4 blocks, 1 ace) for the victory. Vladimir Garkov added 12 more points for the success.
In the first meeting between the two teams, Bulgaria lost to France with 1:3 (19:25, 25:15, 20:25, 23:25).
Today, the young “lions” travel to the Italian city of Vasto, where on Saturday (September 17) the battles in Group II of Eurovolley 2022 will begin. The rivals of the Bulgarian boys are the Czech Republic, Finland, Belgium, Portugal and Greece. In the other Group I are the hosts from Italy, Serbia, France, Poland, Slovakia and Slovenia. The top two teams from each group advance to the semi-finals. The second two are playing for 5/8th place.
“We made two very good controls against a class opponent. We exchanged one victory each. All the boys played. “Simeon Nikolov did well and will remain in the squad for the European Championship in place of Borislav Nikolov,” commented coach Martin Stoev.
