Jovan Vukotic, considered the leader of the Montenegrin criminal Shkalyar clan, was killed in Istanbul, BGNES reported. He was shot dead in the Turkish metropolis on September 8, reports the Montenegrin publication Viesti.
The Skaljar clan controls the drug trade, not only in Montenegro, but also in neighboring countries. Last year, authorities in Podgorica issued an international search and arrest warrant for the drug lord.
Last year it became clear that Vukotich also holds a Macedonian passport in the name of Georgi Andonov. According to VMRO-DPMNE, “in the period from December 2017 to January 2021, the heads of several drug cartels were issued original documents from Macedonia for problem-free travel and stay abroad”. The amount for obtaining a fake passport was about 20,000 euros. Because of the scandal, 9 policemen were arrested, and the then administration accused the opposition from VMRO-DPMNE of almost failing the operation with the arrests by speaking publicly.
In 2018, he was arrested in Antalya, and then the Belgrade edition “Kurir” wrote that he had a Bulgarian passport and it was with him that he stayed in the Turkish resort.
