Due to the low purchasing power of consumers, quantities of the aromatic fruit are lying around
The situation on the raspberry market this year has been of variable success for their producers. The early harvest has a satisfactory result. The average yield for the country is within the planned range of 480 to over 500 kg/ha. The picking of the late raspberry is not over yet.
The prices have been increased by the intermediate traders because they remain relatively stable and uniform among the producers, explained Bozhidar Petkov, chairman of the Bulgarian Association of Raspberry and Strawberry Growers (BAM-YA).
At the beginning of the year, processing enterprises bought frozen fruit at a good price. However, after that, quantities probably from Ukraine poured into the European market, lying since last year at a dumping price, which had a lightning-fast effect on the prices in Bulgaria.
On the fresh market, the prices from the field are currently between BGN 5 and 6/kg, and on the exchanges and auctions – between BGN 8 and 10/kg. Unfortunately, prices from 12 to 19 BGN/kg are observed in the commercial chains, which means that traders allow themselves serious overcharges with the justification that the fruits are sensitive and a lot is thrown away.
At the moment, the demand for raspberries is reduced because the purchasing power is low and there are huge amounts of unsold quantities, explained the chairman of the industry association.
In order to wait for better times to realize the production, the producers of fine fruits asked for state aid for cold storage. But they were refused. Unfortunately, a large number of producers do not have the means to store their products.
