Toma Stoichkov from Sofia is the paraglider who died on Mount Musala. The young man was a famous competitor, one of the best in our country. Just a few months ago, he qualified first in the first paragliding competition “Bansko Open”, reports “Telegraph”.
Toma Stoichkov took off with a group of paragliders from Markudzhik. In the early afternoon, he crashed into one of the windows of the weather station on the summit. According to the meteorologist on duty, the man had two broken legs and a fractured pelvis. 10 rescuers from PSS Borovets participated in the rescue operation. The military helicopter “Cougar” was also called, which managed to evacuate the injured man. He was transported to UMBAL “St. Georgi” in Plovdiv, where he died.
The reasons for the accident are still unclear. Rescuers commented that thanks to his experience he was able to control the paraglider to hit the window of the weather station. Unfortunately, however, the collision was very severe, Stoichkov literally went inside.
The young man’s colleagues are devastated by the ridiculous loss.
“Thomas was a boy with great courage and a big heart. Lately he had developed a great appetite for flying. Always cautious and knowing his capabilities, he flew in a proper manner and I have shared the clouds with him more than once or twice.”
“Tommy, I want you to know that you will always be a part of me, my friend. Rest in peace and may your adventure not end here! May the light you radiated continue to shine wherever you are!!!” they wrote on social networks.
